Everyone is buzzing about going green these days and the house is one of the best places to start. Since I spend so much time inside our homes, only makes sense to start being more environmentally friendly there. Here, we see at five ways you and your family can start to go green with eco-home.
1. Green Clean. Most commercial cleaners you find on the supermarket shelves are full of nasty toxins and chemicals that can leave your home bright, but can wreak havoc on your lungs and skin, not to mention they are very toxic to small children and pets. Instead of taking that next once bright blue window cleaner, why not try vinegar and water to leave the windows sparkling clean. The vinegar is an excellent cleanser and when mixed with baking sodium, which also functions as a natural abrasive. And if you prefer something a bit more commercial, there are eco-green cleaners on the market these days, too.
2. Search water conservation. No need to remodel your bathroom to use less water. Going green is as easy as installing new showers that use less water, take showers instead of baths and washing dishes in a sink full of water instead of running the faucet continuously. A special prize may fall into the tank the toilet to reduce the amount of water used for each color, making your home a green home.
3. Change the lights. There are two ways to go here in order to reduce the amount of electricity you use in your home. The first is to replace all ceiling lights with fluorescent lighting. These are now available in warm light, so not even miss the softer look yellow tungsten, however, the amount of energy saved is definitely going to make a difference in your electric bill. The other way to save more money and energy is to use LED lights in their lamps. They do not work so well for ceiling lights, but they are very bright and is ideal for lighting focused and cost a penny more year of implementation.
4. Switching to glass and metal. When it comes to the kitchen, you will find a amount of waste here. Instead of single use plastics and other similar compounds that could be leaching chemicals into food or are disposable, opt for glass and metal containers. They are easier to clean, can be re-used and if you choose the right type, you will be able to use them the freezer, or oven. The best part? You will not be contributing to the problem of landfills with plastic bags and disposable containers.
5. Furniture eco home use. When choosing to buy items for your home that are made of materials that are easy to replace, they are contributing to a more friendly the world. Teak, oak and other fine woods, take many, many years to grow, but materials such as cork and bamboo, while still stylish, can be quickly replaced. Choose chairs bamboo and organic cotton or linen cloth to cover your furniture is a great way to start going green.
