Where should I look for a really good jetted bathtub or spa tub?
I am going to tell you something about jetted tubs that the salesman won’t tell you. I couldn’t wait for my first bath when we moved into our house 3 yrs ago. I cleaned the tub really well which included a thorough jet cleaning. In the first year I had gotten 5 yeast infections. I started tracking them to find the cause. I rarely ever got them before moving here.
Turns out the infections would occur 7-10 days after each bath. After talking to a salesman at the spa shop I found out it is apparently common to have mold & bacteria form in the jets from the oils in our skin. There is no way to dry the jets out to prevent it from happening.
The only way to avoid a problem is to fill the tub prior to bathing with 1/2 cup bleach & water and run the jets for about 15 min. 2 problems with that, 1) who has time to do that before each bath, 2) not enough hot water in my tank to fill the tub once let alone twice. That’s the other thing about those tubs, they hold 50-60 gallons of water which is no problem for an 80 gallon hot water heater but most households have a 40 gallon tank. A tankless water heater is the way to go if you have a jetted tub.
I am not trying to talk you out of it I just thought you’d like more info from someone who’s got one. Make an informed choice! Good Luck.
